Andrew Steen of A1 Housing praised for completing VRQ

Andrew Steen, Gas Safety Manager at A1 Housing in Bassetlaw, Nottingham has successfully completed his Level 4 VRQ in Gas Safety Management and received praise from his Board.

Andrew is one of the first 40 Gas Managers in the country to gain the CORGI qualification that recognises skills and knowledge on delivering effective gas safety management. The Social Housing VRQ is an industry unique qualification comprising five different units:

  • Gas Safety legislation
  • Gas in Social Housing
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Flues & Ventilation
  • Appliances, meters and pipework

Don Spittlehouse, Director of Technical Services and Deputy Managing Director at A1 Housing said: “I’d like to congratulate Andrew for being amongst the first gas Safety Managers in the Country to pick up this qualification. This shows A1 Housing’s commitment to quality, relevant training and is a further investment in our gas safety skills and knowledge.”

Kevin Winship, Technical Safety Manager at CORGI Technical Services said:

“Our Gas Safety Management in Social Housing Qualification validates the skills and knowledge of quality gas safety managers in the Social Housing sector. This is a unique industry qualification and A1 Tenants can be assured that by achieving this qualification, A1 Housing have demonstrated the highest standards in gas safety.”

As well as gaining this qualification, Andrew has also become a member of the Gas Managers Yorkshire Forum and a member of the Association of Gas Safety Managers.

The Gas Forum allows Contract Managers to meet and discuss changes that are affecting the gas industry, implement and bring in policies, which ensures there are consistencies across a number of different associations.

This is the first time that gas industry professionals have had the opportunity to meet face to face on a regular basis and primarily discuss issues of safety, which ultimately leads to safer systems and ensuring safe environments for tenants as a whole.
