This qualification builds awareness in a non-technical way and so is suitable for internal or external social housing staff. It can be taken by staff members who visit properties or interact with tenants and those who don’t but still need to understand organisational and tenant responsibilities regarding electrical safety. These could include roles such as Finance, Tenant Liaison Officers or HR departments. It would be particularly useful as an induction tool for new starters to give a basic understanding of electrical safety and legislation.
The course attendees will be assessed upon completion of the course so that they can be assured that they have learnt. The course will be certificated by the Association of Electrical Safety Managers (AESM) as ‘Successful Completion’ and will therefore be invaluable for health and safety purposes. The qualification is centre based and combines a half-day guided learning event given by AESM Tutors followed by a summative assessment consisting of a multiple-choice question paper.Topics covered:

  1. Understanding electricity?
  2. Hazards of electricity
  3. How to stay safe
  4. Landlords’ responsibilities
  5. Working with tenants to achieve compliance

The qualification is assessed by Internally set and marked written examination consisting of multiple choice responses.

The qualification can lead to AESM Level 2 VRQ Award in Electrical Safety Awareness in Social Housing as a natural progression.
